Dealing with unexpected or unwelcome news can often be stressful and emotional. Counselling provides a forum through which the person affected and their family can talk about their anxieties and fears in an environment that is dependable and confidential. Healthy Hearts Healthy Lives offer a free session with a qualified counsellor specifically to any person who has had a health issue highlighted as a result of undergoing heart screening.
The counsellor is skilled at listening and reflecting on the problems raised and they will help you gain insight into your feelings and behaviour. They will explore the issues that affect you and help you to come up with ways of dealing with them.
Further sessions can be agreed between the counsellor and the individual affected or their family. These additional sessions will not be funded by Healthy Hearts Healthy Lives.
