Healthy Hearts Healthy Lives

John and Tony McEnteeSet up in 2011 by former Armagh footballers John and Tony McEntee, Healthy Hearts Healthy Lives facilitates locally arranged cardiac screening clinics for those aged 14-35 at various centres in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

It also aims to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS). Our primary focus is on screening people who wish to engage in sporting activities however, our service is available to all who wish to under go screening who are 14 years of age or older.

The screening clinics comprise of completion of a screening questionnaire and an electrocardiogram (ECG). All ECG's will be assessed and interpreted by a Consultant Cardiologist.Further testing by way of Echocardiogram (ECHO) is available, if required.

Each person being screened will be provided with an Information Booklet, which informs them of the service offered as well as outlining the importance of effective screening

All staff used in the administering and interpreting of the screening programme are medically qualified and experienced practitioners.

We offer screening clinics to clubs, schools and organisations throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland weekly. If you would like to be screened or are interested in your sports club facilitating a screening clinic please contact us at the link provided.

Why minimum screening age of 14 years

Sreening before age 14 is useful for certain conditions such as inherited long QT syndrome. However, other conditions, in particular hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, does not usually develop until adolescence, and therefore screening at too early an age may give a (false) impression that the screened person has not got hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
